[00:00:13] Speaker A: Hello everyone and welcome to the Disappearances of Draco Malfoy. A Pensieve read through the podcast where we explore a story that could have been in the Harry Potter universe. I'm Amy and I'll be your host and your resident fan fiction. Enthusiastic? I've been reading Harry Potter fanfiction for years now and I'm so excited to finally share one of my absolute favorites with someone very special. My sister, Holly. Now, Holly is a huge Potterhead. We both grew up with the books. We each reread them once every few years. But unlike me, she has never read a single piece of fanfiction. [00:00:45] Speaker B: Not one. [00:00:46] Speaker A: So each episode we're going to be reading and discussing the Disappearances of Draco Malfoy by speechwriter, a beloved Deathly Hallows rewrite that asks one simple but powerful what if Draco Malfoy made a different choice atop the Astronomy Tower? We'll be going through the story two chapters at a time, breaking down the plot, talking about characters choices, and of course reacting in real time as Holly experiences HP fanfiction. And I cannot stress this enough, she is going in completely blind. No spoilers, no expectations, just vibes confusion and probably a lot of feelings about Draco and Hermione. So whether you've read this fic before, you're a long time fanfiction reader like me, or you're totally new like Holly, you're in the right place. So grab a buddy, beer, get cozy and let's dive in. [00:01:40] Speaker B: Welcome to the show, everyone. I'm Amy. [00:01:43] Speaker C: And I'm Holly. [00:01:45] Speaker B: And today we are going over chapters seven and eight of the Disappearances of Draco Malfoy, AKA Diso Draco. And these chapters include the Minister's Eulogy and the Fidelius Charm. In these chapters we have a brief visit with Fred and George Weasley. Yes, friend Jared Weasley. And we're beginning to see some sentiments of my precious with the diadem. [00:02:23] Speaker C: Oh yes, yes, yes. [00:02:26] Speaker B: So, but yeah, we had to push this recording back a bit because you had things to do. I had something going on. So we finally are here again after like six weeks. And so. So you just finished the chapters like a few days ago. Your initial thoughts, Holly? [00:02:45] Speaker C: So yeah, I actually, I really, really enjoyed these two chapters overall. I liked seeing the dynamics of all the characters and how they're evolving. I mean there were, there were like a couple things that annoyed me like for, you know, again, these are not like a big deal, but there was one point where it felt like some. There were a Few interesting adventures that got mentioned and they were just completely glossed over. Like they were not narrated. Right. And again, I. You know, it's like the focus is on the character dynamics, which, I mean, I like that, too, but sometimes it feel, you know, feels like that's the purpose of the story as opposed to also, like, the actual plot things, you know, like. Because I. Yeah, anyway. But, you know, again, I really like. I really liked both Draco. I mean, I'm really liking Draco's perspective in general. I liked Hermione's perspectives a lot better. There were a couple points about her that I was a little annoyed with. But it wasn't like the writing of her character. In fact, it was kind of like on Brand for her. But it still was like, things that, you know, kind of annoy me, basically. I'll just say how she seems to be procuring breakfast and making breakfast for everybody while everybody's asleep, like, repeatedly. So it's like, why. Why does Hermione doing that forever? Like, why aren't other people. You know? But anyway. But that wasn't anything to do with the writing. I will. I. I do want to say just. I'll mention at the beginning because I don't really have much to complain about in these two chapters but I do stand by, like, how I think Hermione at first was not portrayed super well. You know, Like, I. I mean, honestly, amazing accolades to this author and everything. Like, doing amazing job of, like, dealing, jumping into this story and going a different direction. But, you know, again, the first issue was, like, the confusion about Hermione's feelings which for us as readers was, like. It felt like it came out of nowhere. Right. Ironically, there were instances where even that specifically could have been expanded upon better. Like a conversation with Viktor Krum at the wedding. You know, like anything like that. It's almost like opportunities to make that more clear were kind of missed. It was just her having feeling, you know, having conflicting feelings. But then two, you know, even if that were done well, I still stand by that. A lot of her introspective moments were about her relationships with either Harry or Ron or Draco as opposed to worrying about her parents. Her joy at seeing Hagrid when that moment happened. Even expanding upon SPEW when we were in her point of view and she says something, you know, like, well, why do you think I would care about spew? You know, like, while they're in the room of requirement. But then, like, she has no internal thoughts about it. So we still don't Kind of get her perspective on it, you know what I mean? Like, yeah, you said something earlier that kind of disturbed me which was like, she's just a 17 year old girl and it's like, well, okay, sure, she can have like confusion over boys and stuff, but it just bothers me when it's only about that for a female character because that's done, that's done so much where female characters are just defined in their relation to like the other male characters that that's just what I had a beef with. And it was done a lot. I think it's actually changed. There were a lot more moments in these chapters where Hermione thought about other things that I was finally like, oh, yes, okay, she's like a person. Yeah, so. [00:06:46] Speaker B: So, yeah. All right then. So wherein we left off, they had infiltrated Hogwarts, gotten the diadem from the room of Hidden Things in the Room of Requirement, absconded with it, hid out in Slytherin common room and escaped Hogwarts via the lake which is accessible through the center and common room. And they were. And they're camping out in the caves near Hogsmeade. Probably the same cave that Sirius was hanging, hanging around in book four. [00:07:20] Speaker C: Yeah, as you're describing this, it all sounds like, man, it seems like a while ago because it was a while since we read all that. [00:07:27] Speaker B: So we start off with Hermione wakes up and Malfoy appears to be gone. And she's like, crap, he has the cloak, he has the Marauder's Map. [00:07:36] Speaker C: Yeah, this was one of the moments that bugged me a little bit because it so doesn't, it, it still doesn't seem like Hermione would just run out to try to like, why didn't she wake Ron and Harry immediately? Like it seems weird that she didn't wake Ron and Harry immediately. Like that seems odd to me. I get. Again, it feels a little contrived. Like they wanted her, you know, the author wanted her and Draco to have like their own moment. And there's moments plenty like that come later which I think occur like more naturally. This one seemed like, oh my God, Malfoy's gone. Like it seemed like she would maybe wake Ron and Harry immediately and she doesn't. But anyway. [00:08:20] Speaker B: Yeah, but Draco has not run off. He has just disillusioned himself. Yeah. So they, so he reappears and what, what, what do they talk about in this moment? Or not too much. He's just, she just goes in, she transfigures herself to Go into the village to get supplies. [00:08:44] Speaker C: Yeah. I was worried this was gonna maybe be again like a bit of a contrived conversation. I honestly don't remember either because they keep it very short. It's not a very protracted moment. [00:08:56] Speaker B: No, it's a few banters here and there about oh yeah, it would be stupid. It's not interest to run off right now. And. And she's like, yeah, I know. And she was just like, okay. Then, you know, once she's assessed the situation is stable she's like, I'm going into Hogsmeade to get supplies. Which again, why is she doing that and not one of the other boys? [00:09:14] Speaker C: But I know. Well, it's fine if they. Maybe they have some trade off system where they take turns. But again, if that's the case, it's not made clear. So she's going into Hogs Made Get. She's getting up way before, like way before Ron and Harry, it seems like. Yeah. [00:09:35] Speaker B: Anyway, I make notes about it. Again, I don't think it's a shade on the writer at all. It's. It's the writer portraying a very real dynamic that a lot of female friends find themselves in with their male friends. [00:09:46] Speaker C: Yes, she does mother them definitely a little bit. Like that's a real thing that I think Hermione does. So I didn't have an issue with it in terms of the writing style, but I did, you know, I have an issue with it in terms of friendship. [00:10:04] Speaker B: Yeah. So yeah, so she goes into Hogsmeade as we know, as we find out later, they don't have Polyjouche, so she's just transfigured and she's like. But the place is packed for Dumbledore's funeral. People are coming in. And so she finally goes to the Hogshead to get some, some like, like a crate of like pumpkin juice and stuff. [00:10:24] Speaker C: Yeah. I was wondering about these stops actually. So I know we have a slight moment in Hot in the Hogshead, blah blah blah. Words are like stumbling out of my mouth. I know we have a quick moment in the Hog's Head, but there are a couple places like she needs butterbeer. She goes to Honeydukes. Are these survival supplies? She does go to a grocery store. But why is she buying candy? Like. Yeah, that's a question I had. [00:10:56] Speaker B: I'll say a comment I have about that for, for later. [00:11:01] Speaker C: Okay. [00:11:02] Speaker B: You know, but yeah, so she, yeah, she has the. In terms of, you know, the whole thing with Malfoy being gone. I didn't so much interpret that scenario as contrived. The only thing in these two chapters that I thought was maybe kind of contrived is which again, it is possible because Hermione is a very observant person and you know, and is good at reading people and stuff. You know, it's her being in the Hogshead and her clicking and her putting together that maybe the barman is related to Dumbledore. [00:11:36] Speaker C: Yeah. Again, you know, my understanding is Dumbledore has very uniquely like piercing blue eyes that are noticeable but, you know, does she spend a lot of. She hasn't spent a lot of time with Dumbledore herself. Yeah. [00:11:54] Speaker B: Not again. Like in this particular context it might seem surprised but. But on one hand I was also thinking but it could actually work because she has been having to have. In this context, in this universe she's been having to handle Dumbledore's body. So she is true. [00:12:12] Speaker C: She saw him right before he died. [00:12:15] Speaker B: Right before he died and has been having to. And was having to care for his body. So she was looking at him for a really long time. So she's just gone from that to seeing this other old guy with the same blue eyes. And so it can kind of make sense of why she would make this connection. [00:12:33] Speaker C: Yeah, I mean, when he was killed, you know, I forget the description maybe his. Where his eyes like open. You know, I think there was a scene where maybe she closed his eyes, you know, after he had died. So like that's probably a very, you know, disturbing and thing that would have stuck with you like the eye staring Dumbledore's eyes. So yeah, it's very brief. I forget if she even mentions it to the group when she goes back. [00:13:03] Speaker B: I don't think she does. [00:13:04] Speaker C: Yeah, no. [00:13:06] Speaker B: Yep. So she goes back into the cave and yeah. [00:13:11] Speaker C: Ron starts stuffing his face. [00:13:14] Speaker B: That's very on brand. [00:13:16] Speaker C: That's on brand. Yeah. And so Malfoy takes his food outside. [00:13:24] Speaker B: Yeah. Because they had a little tift about Harry and Ron are saying oh, he was like going on about how you were gone so much and something. Something got about his dad and Ron said something to the effect of like no one gives a rat's ass what you're. What your. What happens to your dad. And so Malfoy stalked off. [00:13:46] Speaker C: But yeah, Hermione, you know, they're discussing like, you know, what do they do. What do they do with them if we can't get him back to his parents. But Hermione like makes a point here. Like, you know, Malfoy might have knowledge that could help us even if he doesn't know it. You know, like, she's trying. She's trying to advocate for him a little bit and she's kind of being, you know, she's trying to placate the situation. [00:14:12] Speaker B: Yeah. Which she's not. She's not Ron. She's not wrong because again, Ron is the pure blood. And Ron usually is the stand in for being able to give Harry, the protagonist, you know, information about the wizarding world. But because he's not like a super waspish pure blood like Draco, Draco knows certain elements of that society that none of them know about. Which is pert. Which is pertinent because Death Eaters have just taken over. [00:14:40] Speaker C: Right. Yeah. But there's still, you know, dissension among the ranks at this point. It's difficult for them to like kind of be in this situation together. Yeah. [00:14:54] Speaker B: And so from the cave they hear like, voices and Draco's like, come listen to this. And it's basically people speaking at Dumbledore's funeral. [00:15:06] Speaker C: Yeah. Again, confusion. Hogwarts grounds, I mean, this is Hogwarts Grounds are very big. Right. And they're in a cave up the cliffside from Hogsmeade which is outside the grounds. Like, even if someone's using like, you know, the Sonorous Charm or whatever I was actually kind of amazed that they could hear so clearly like, what was going on, like down at the service. [00:15:34] Speaker B: It kind of makes me wonder if Dumbledore put some charms in there for on for Sirius's sake that he could hear what's going on in the Triwizard Tournament in the caves. [00:15:47] Speaker C: Interesting. Yeah. [00:15:48] Speaker B: I mean, that's my headcanon of how it could work. [00:15:51] Speaker C: Okay. I mean, I like the idea. I mean, you know, it's also when you're on the mountainside and there's like, you know, things echo off. You know, you're in a cave. Like, I understand, like the sound can work different. Maybe it's even helpful that they're in the cave. But yeah, I was just a little surprised they could even hear anything even with knowing they can have like sound projection and stuff. Because I imagine the cave on this cliff being pretty far away from where this service down by the lake in the Hogwarts grounds is being held. [00:16:27] Speaker B: Yeah, I don't know because I geographically perceive, you know, obviously the gate to Hogwarts. I don't, Honest, I. I always perceive Hogsmeade as being like, very close. Like the gate being like, within the. At the edge of the town. If Not a little bit off a town. And then that gate is very close to the castle. And then like behind the castle is all the expansive grounds. But still, even if it's the closest you could be in Hogsmeade, still you're going up those mountains next to Hogmese. And it. Anyway, so I kind of took the note that the combination of this eulogy and some of Draco's commentary on it is serving the same sort of info dump and commentary that in the canon books was. Was fulfilled by Remus Lupin when. When Lupin goes to visit Harry, Ron and Hermione in Grimmauld Place. [00:17:19] Speaker C: Oh, okay, Yeah, I. That makes sense. I. Because I. Obviously it's a different conversation, but. Yeah, I could see that. Oh, sorry, my cat is messing up my notes here. Okay. [00:17:34] Speaker B: Booters. [00:17:35] Speaker C: Yeah. I don't remember what Remiss talks about specifically, but here, yeah, they're talking about the mandatory attendance at the school, which again, confusion. I thought Hogwarts attendance was mandatory in Britain, but maybe it wasn't. No, they talk about the not so flattering list of incidents that Harry has been involved with, you know, some of which are true. And then what else? Again, I guess that's mainly it. That's mainly it. And it's pious thick knees talking. Right. [00:18:12] Speaker B: Yeah. And the biggest part is, you know, just try in the spirit of. In the spirit of making Hogwarts attendance mandatory. Also sending out a sort of census to get demographic data, quote unquote, about the student body. [00:18:30] Speaker C: Oh, yes, yes, that was mentioned as well. [00:18:32] Speaker B: Did I say democratic? I meant demographic, not to be confused with democratic. Because that is not what they're promoting. [00:18:41] Speaker C: No. So, yeah, they're all pretty disturbed by it. I think Hermione's fists are shaking with rage. I think Harry can't even. And listen to it. He like goes back inside. Yeah, yeah, there's. There's finally. I was so happy. There's a little bit of thought here from Hermione, you know, where she has this moment where she's like, she wishes everything were different. She wished she had saved Dumbledore. You know, she wishes Grimjour had survived one more day. It's like her thinking about the state of the world and everything that's going on and. Yeah, that was really refreshing to like, see, you know, her own anxiety about everything that's going on. You know, that is not just an accessory to the. To the group, you know. [00:19:30] Speaker B: Yeah. And so at Dumbledore's funeral ends. You know, we get the Phoenix song and then we Got the big bright light and the big fancy marble tomb appears. Same as canon. [00:19:41] Speaker C: Yeah yeah there's even. Yeah sorry I'm reading my notes. There's even more like she thought about her parents etc. Excited faces in Diagon Alley and the four poster beds in the girls dormitory and the dusty smell of the library and Harry and Ron laughing with her on. On the lawn. Fabulous you know a thousand points you know that's all great and she begins sobbing with all the final like as the funeral ends. She's pretty you know affected by it. [00:20:09] Speaker B: Yep. [00:20:09] Speaker C: But and is. Is Malfoy. I was a little like is Malfoy sobbing too like they kind of have this moment where they're standing in silence together which is always awkward when someone you dislike greatly you know to see them also like having some kind of emotional pain is always unnerving. [00:20:29] Speaker B: Yeah I feel like that yeah they have a moment of unwilling commiserating over the shitty state of the world and you know so they pack up all their stuff and then they disapparate and I had honestly forgotten exactly where they go after this. After this Hogwarts escapade and I was reminded that who do they go to? They go to Fred and George. [00:20:54] Speaker C: Yeah I loved this because yeah we. We get to kind of see their. Their place which we hadn't so I really, I really enjoyed this. [00:21:04] Speaker B: Yes so the twins shock didn't last long. They're so happy to see them obviously and so Fred and George give them the rundown of basically what happened that they got interrogated Fred and George's and most of them interrogation wasn't too bad like in terms of like in terms of like torture and it is through Fred and George Draco finds out that the only person who really knows about like his. His parents location is Tonks. But now no one can safely get in contact with the at least the Order any Order members probably but most importantly the Order members that still work for the Ministry. [00:21:45] Speaker C: Yeah so yeah Malfoy definitely interjects and you know Fred and George spent a decent amount of time explaining you know Tonks removed them somewhere they don't know where. You know Harry's kind of oddly silent I notice like throughout all of this and, and at least at the beginning and then Fred says yeah oh yeah Tongs Kingsley and her dad are the only order members left at the Ministry and they're being watched. I was a little confused by that because if they've been found out as members of the Order like wouldn't they be removed from The Ministry. Like, wouldn't they be in more serious trouble? [00:22:28] Speaker B: Like. Well, I'm only chalking this up to is not. They're trying not to arrest them immediately to try and milk as many people again, people who try to communicate with them, you know. [00:22:38] Speaker C: Oh, maybe. Okay, so like they're known and they're being watched. Okay, yeah, that, that make. That makes sense. But still you'd think that they'd be like rounded up or something. [00:22:52] Speaker B: Yeah. I love how this author portrays again the dynamic of Fred and George, how they talked just completely on point because they're like, oh yeah, speaking of which, that reminds me, you four are absolute bloody Italy idiots. Spectacular boneheads, World class pratts with flubber worms for brains. Because they're basically saying, you shouldn't have come here. [00:23:13] Speaker C: Yeah. It's actually even like their individual characters. Like Fred's kind of more the leader. George is kind of more like the thinker. Right. Like even their individual twins were like spot on. So like I was really, really enjoying it because I was able to like immerse myself in like the story as it was happening without anything kind of something weird seeming jarring or standing out or anything like that. You know, there, there is a moment like in here I just want to mention it because you know, they're. They were talking about Draco's parents and this is from Draco's perspective, right. This whole, this whole scene. So there's a moment here where like Draco's mouth went dry, his hand tightened around the wand in his pocket and a tingling feeling swarmed over his body as if ants were scurrying over every inch of his skin. He felt the wooden floor against his back. He heard his mother screaming. A taster, said the Dark Lord with displeasure. So this is like I was waiting for another mention of something like this. So Draco had like some. It was actually more like a self harm thought early, earlier in an earlier chapter. But here it seems like he's remembering being tortured. Like that's the first time he's recalled that to my knowledge. [00:24:36] Speaker B: Yeah. Because. Because he, because when does this happen? I think it happens in the context of like most people got interrogated like the normal level. But it was Tongs who got the worst of it in terms of being tortured in her. In her interrogation. And you know, Drake. And then Draco is again, this triggers Draco's memory. [00:24:55] Speaker C: Yeah. So we definitely got a little bit there about his, his being tortured by. By Voldemort. And then finally we kind of shift, you know, like Harry finally pipes up a little bit. You know, he asked the twins for help, like, where do we find the Scavengers Guild? I was actually wondering this myself before they asked, like, are they going to ask them about this? [00:25:18] Speaker B: Yeah. So yeah, they talk about the Scavengers Guild and they also talk about Mundangas because they realize, oh, mundon gas did nick a lot of the stuff, you know. And Fred, Fred and George have explained that Mundungus, with Dumbledore dead, be, you know, moody getting killed essentially on, you know, on Mundungus, quote unquote, watch, shall we say. Like Mundungus is so scared of the either repercussions from the order or just things in general that he is even giving up certain business opportunities with Fred and George and has missed two deliveries. [00:25:56] Speaker C: Yeah. So he's on the run, like very seriously on the run. Perhaps abroad they say. Yeah, like, who knows? [00:26:06] Speaker B: Yeah. What cowardly get George muttered. Unprofitable get Fred added. So it's, it's, it's implied that Fred and George have lost some money because of, of Mundgus going awol, which is again, which is a nice touch because we get a very small glimpse of Fred and George in the canon books, like using Mundungas to get access to certain materials and ingredients for all their stuff when they're still developing things as students. [00:26:34] Speaker C: Right. Yeah. And there's again a moment here where they're talking about Mundungus being a coward and running off and turning tail and Draco has, you know, starts feeling self conscious for a moment, like he's being looked at and he like is reasoning to himself. He didn't act like Mundungus. You know, we, we think of Draco as being out for himself and his family. But then when you, when you do make the comparison to someone like Dung, as I'll say, who is really out for literally just themselves. It's an interesting contrast that they put in here because it kind of makes Malfoy, you know, it makes Draco appear in a little bit more positive light that I think we've thought of him so far. [00:27:23] Speaker B: Yeah, because it's triggered because this monologue for Draco is triggered because when Fred and George are explaining like, you know, as far as they know, like Dung has no family, he has no real friends. Like he has no one to look out for or he doesn't care about anyone for himself. So of course, why wouldn't he run away and you know, has and has no one in this world. And so Ron kind of thinks about this and looks over at Draco like, I guess too. It's too. He's still not pit. I don't know if pity is the right word because again, Ron is still very antagonistic with Draco at this point, but still. Yeah, he starts to think of again, Draco can see that Ron is comparing him to, to Doug and he's like, no, I'm not. I. I have fa. I have a real family. [00:28:10] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. Well, I mean, yeah, he doesn't say it out loud, but yeah, he's. [00:28:13] Speaker B: But yeah, he's thinking it. [00:28:14] Speaker C: He's thinking to himself like, I'm not like this other person who only like is a thief and cares about making money. Which is an interesting contrast because it's not like Draco's family is rich, but it's not like they really care about money per se. Well, it's more like status. Right. The status that comes with having money has been important to them. But yeah, again I just thought it was a very like, interesting contrast to put here to like have this conversation about Mondoggus. Not just like plot wise, but also it makes Draco appear a little bit more like positive. [00:28:53] Speaker B: Yeah. And so it's fun to have to see. It's nice in general to have seen, you know, more of Fred and George's like inner world with their shop. But I thought it was a nice touch to see it from Draco's perspective because Draco's making the comment like it's, it's very, the style is very gaudy, as if some people have just recently come into money and they don't know how to spend it. [00:29:15] Speaker C: Yes. I love that. Well, that's actually their, their lodgings. Right. So they, they hear a creek outside and they like all kind of stop the conversation. And then the twins like apparate them to what is clearly their, you know, private, like their apartment or parlor. Yeah, but yeah, it's the parlor. It's like, yeah. Stuffed with flashy, gaudy furniture of someone who had suddenly obtained a large amount of gold and had no idea how to spend it properly. Such a Draco thought. But yeah, that, that was really funny to me as well. [00:29:47] Speaker B: Yeah. So Fred and George, you know, they understand the severity of situation. So like they've, they're trying gonna do what they can, but they are packed and ready should. When they need to go on the run. But in light of them showing up, you know, they offer, here, take our tent. We can always. We can get another one. So they have a different tent. Now than the one they had in Canon. [00:30:10] Speaker C: Yeah, well, I guess this is Fred and George's own tent. I mean, we see later they've got like potential experiments going on inside this camping tent. [00:30:22] Speaker B: Yeah. So my, my understanding is that they bought this tent as part of their like aesthetic escape package and they're giving it to them. Like we can get another one, you know. [00:30:31] Speaker C: Yeah. So yeah, they, they shove the info about the Scavengers Guild and their tent and you know, tell them to, to leave. So like, yeah, they, they disapparate. Right. As someone is knocking at the twin store. Yeah, Yep. But yeah, I love, I love that so much. I thought Fred and George again, like when I can be friends, fully immersed in it without being like, this isn't quite right. Or would this character do this? Like, it's really enjoyable when I don't have those like little interruptions, you know. [00:31:05] Speaker B: So, yeah, so we apparate into a clearing which is a place that they did go in the Canon books which is, you know, the forest next to where the, you know, the World Quidditch cup was held. [00:31:19] Speaker C: Yeah, I had, Yeah, I have some comments about this here because one Draco. So yeah, they arrive here. Draco is definitely in a bit of a mood after the news. Well, basically the news of no news of his parents. Right. So he's definitely, I mean, understandably, I guess, a little salty about it. I think he comments like at some point earlier he commented the farther from the order he went, the farther he became from his parents. But yeah, he's thinking about like the Death Eater march that happened and there's this weird passage here where it's like he's reflecting on it and he's like, well, I wasn't really enjoying it, but I felt safe. I had trouble accepting some of his reflections on this because he definitely acted. I mean, again, you could say it's an act, but he was a mu. Acted amused. He was downright nasty with the trio at this moment. Like in the past when they were here. [00:32:21] Speaker B: Yeah. So. And it's just interesting. Yeah, he was super nasty, like in the canon. In the canon books. But actually when it comes to like super hardcore Germany shippers pointing to some canon possible illusions that maybe Draco kind of likes Hermione. Is that in the canon? Even though he was delivering the information in a super nasty, super way, he ultimately was conveying like, you should be going deeper into the forest before they find her. Before they find Hermione because she's a Muggle born. [00:32:53] Speaker C: Wow. Wait, so people look to this, that moment for like, Franco, Hermione Shipping. That's pretty messed up. [00:33:04] Speaker B: Yep. [00:33:04] Speaker C: I'll have to go back and read the exact passage. Yeah, I'll go back and read it. But yeah, I don't think this behavior at this moment in book four was reflected upon. Well, here he didn't see. In my opinion, he didn't seem to remember his own behavior and hence there's a bit of a missed opportunity for him to reflect more meaningfully on it. [00:33:29] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:33:29] Speaker C: If that makes sense. [00:33:31] Speaker B: Yeah. But, yeah, in terms of the dynamic of exactly how I reflected on it. But he, again, he's a little perturbed that he was like, trying, like. Was she trying to, like, make him feel guilty? And she was just. And she's just like, well, he's thinking this and maybe she can sense that he's thinking this. And she's like, no, this is just like the first thing I thought of. [00:33:51] Speaker C: Mm. Mm. Yeah, there's a little bit of banter here. Yeah. I don't have the whole conversation here, but yeah, yeah. Draco says something, sorry, I'm not at my wittiest. And her mind is like, is that what you think? You are witty. Which I just thought that was an interesting comment because maybe that is what Malfoy. Yep. [00:34:15] Speaker B: So. So, yeah, so they start setting up the tent, start setting up all the wards, you know, start doing all that. And then we. [00:34:24] Speaker C: I love. I love that the tent looks like Gryffindor threw up. All of. [00:34:30] Speaker B: Andre and Drago cannot stand it. [00:34:33] Speaker C: Again, like, again, I'm enjoying these little perspectives from, you know, from him, you know. Really great. [00:34:41] Speaker B: Yeah. Because, yeah, as you said, it doesn't look like just an escape tent. Like, it seems like the. The twins were already kind of like using it. Like, had had merchandise in it, had like, you know, notes in it, all sorts of stuff. And we get really cute details of, like, their annotated notes of like. Maybe we could ask dad. [00:35:00] Speaker C: No, yeah, yeah. I enjoyed the little. The little bit about Fred and George's shenanigans. [00:35:08] Speaker B: Yep. [00:35:08] Speaker C: And so, yeah, we have another meal scene. [00:35:12] Speaker B: Yep. There's beds for all of us. You know, packing twins a lot. They packed up all like, the twin stuff to set up all their stuff talk. Yep. And they ate their tomato soup and sour dough bread. [00:35:26] Speaker C: He reflects on, you know, the Tri Wizard Ball. And like, I don't know, I guess because they're talking about Quidditch. I don't remember, but Draco's, like, thinking about Hermione coming down the ballroom Stairs with Victor Crumb. [00:35:39] Speaker B: Because I think Ron makes the question of, like, oh. She's like, oh, yeah. I wish we had seen more, like, made friends with more like international witches and wizards. And Ron is just like, you know, we made enough international friends, you know, thinking of Victor Krum. [00:35:54] Speaker C: Yeah. So I guess in some ways, Draco's being, You know, he's perceptive. Like, he. He's definitely starting to clock the fact that Ron is a little. [00:36:06] Speaker B: Enamored. [00:36:07] Speaker C: Yeah. I was gonna say possessive is not quite the right word. I guess the word is jealous. [00:36:12] Speaker B: Again, I think the note that I did not say yet, but I said I would come back to later. Like, in the context of, like, they're eating again, not lavish, but they're eating, like a decent meal of tomato soup with sourdough bread. They're in a much nicer tent. You know, they got. They were able to, like, you know, Hermione is able to get food in Hogsmeade. Like, the writers going out of their way to, like, make it so that in terms of the physicality of their quest up and at least until this point, the tent life is not as bad or as crappy as it was in the canon books and make is making it somewhat more decent and livable. [00:36:48] Speaker C: Well, yes, because Hermione went. Bought groceries, apparently. [00:36:53] Speaker B: And they got a. And they got a really luxurious tent from Fred and George. [00:36:57] Speaker C: Sure. Yeah. Maybe it's stocked with stuff already, you know. [00:37:00] Speaker B: Yeah. I think, again, they said they were already packed. I think. I think making the point that everything has already been stocked. And so Hermione has the headspace to just get extra things. [00:37:12] Speaker C: There's some discussion of the sword here. [00:37:16] Speaker B: Yeah. And what they should do. [00:37:19] Speaker C: Yeah. Whether it's at the Ministry, because it was mentioned that, like, a raid happened. Draco has an interesting thought here. He's like. It was one thing to memorize lines out of textbooks. Did Granger also remember every word she'd ever heard anyone say? Again, interesting, you know, thought. Because I think it's Hermione remembering things about, you know, random people. Yeah. She's an information gatherer. She gathers, you know, she will clock things of interest, whether it's from books or just how people are behaving. You know, she notices things. Yeah. [00:37:53] Speaker B: And so. So she's thinking, no, they didn't just lie about that. Because everything else they didn't lie about, they just twisted. So maybe they do. Maybe someone did take it and they're like. And to try and, like, help with their brainstorming session. Hermione suggests taking out the diadem. [00:38:13] Speaker C: No one objects. Draco notices how nice she looks in it. Interesting. [00:38:22] Speaker B: Yes. [00:38:22] Speaker C: And so I was a little disappointed here, actually. [00:38:26] Speaker B: Why? [00:38:27] Speaker C: Well, I mean. I mean, you. She. She puts it on and she sits for a minute. Obviously we're not in her head this time, so. But she like, doesn't have any advice other than we should probably leave the Ministry alone. Which I was disappointed by because I thought there would be like a brain wave of maybe the best place of where to go looking for it. But it was just like, no, we shouldn't go to the Ministry. Like, that was it. So I was like, oh, diadem is not. Not helping as much. [00:38:57] Speaker B: Yeah, so. And that's here that Draco is also an information gatherer because he is able to interpret correctly the demographic information. And spells it out for the trio that they're going to use this as a means to track Muggle borns. [00:39:19] Speaker C: And he stops himself from saying mud blood. [00:39:24] Speaker B: Yes, he does. [00:39:24] Speaker C: He actually stops himself and says, muggle born. What? What an amazing. I mean, I know it's like pathetic to say this, but it's like, wow, what, what progress. Good for you, Draco. Not being a complete jerk. Yes, but. Yeah, yeah, yeah. To his immense irritation, he felt his cheeks grow hot. He sneered at her more for something to do with his face than anything else and looked back down at the grass in his palm, tearing it apart more. I can't say this word vehemently. So again, some OCD behaviors here again mentioned. [00:40:06] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, because I forgot they're not in the tent physically when they're having this conversation. They went out to have a picnic of sorts. [00:40:11] Speaker C: Right. [00:40:11] Speaker B: For dinner. For dinner. [00:40:13] Speaker C: So let's see here. So. So Harry is asking Draco, like, how do you know this is all about tracking demographic. Demographic information stuff and all that. And Draco has this thought, like, now that he thought about it, it was kind of idiotic that Dumbledore hadn't at least given his mind, his mind's contents a cursory look to ensure he hadn't been lying about anything. That is a very good question. I had not thought about that. Yeah, like the back in the moments when Draco was like bargaining and taking Dumbledore's offer. It's not clear from his point of view that there was any kind of mind. You know, legila means being legilimency. Being done on him by Dumbledore. Which would. Would have probably been a very smart thing for Dumbledore to do. Maybe Dumbledore's so good he can do it without you noticing. [00:41:13] Speaker B: Yeah. And so, and then they're having this whole conversation and Harry's just like, you know, Hermione, you're still wearing the diadem. And she's like, harry, I feel fine. And Draco just takes it from her head. [00:41:28] Speaker C: Yeah, he's. She's like, still wearing it. He snatches it off her head. She gets a bit huffy and he notices how carefully she's handling it. But she puts it. She puts it back in the bag for now. [00:41:42] Speaker B: Yes. So. Yeah, so they've still got some time before the Scavengers Guild shows up in Diagon Alley because it seems they come every new moon. [00:41:52] Speaker C: Yeah, well, I mean, hang on. There was one other thing that happened, I think, at the end of this dinner. My notes. So Ron and Draco have a bit of a. Yeah. [00:42:06] Speaker B: Because Ron is like, yeah. Because Draco is just like, okay, if I'm gonna get it. Get stuck, you know, if I'm stuck, you know, with you guys, I need to know, like, all the information. And Harry and Hermione are like, yeah, okay. But Ron is like that. [00:42:24] Speaker C: Yeah, Ron's really going after it. Like, you know, Ron saying stuff like he doesn't actually care about fighting Death Eaters or anything that they stand for, you know, do you, you know, look how he treats everyone. Look how he treats Hagrid, his own friends. And, and then Drago gets upset. Like, how do you know how I treat my friends? And they're like, because we have eyes and ears. Yeah, I thought that about this too. Like the conversation when he was showing off in front of Crab and Goyle. But that was a long time ago. Like, you know, like, that was second year, right? [00:43:01] Speaker B: So, yeah, that's. That's five years at this point. [00:43:04] Speaker C: It is five years ago. So fair. Again, like people cha. You know, people are. [00:43:09] Speaker B: Well, again, like, especially when they're young. Especially between preteens and teenagers. Like, you know, 12. 12 and 17 is like an astronomical difference in psychological development. [00:43:22] Speaker C: Right. But yeah, Ron keeps going on like you'll do anything to save your own neck. I mean, that, that may be true, actually. I mean, fair enough to Ron. Yeah. Do you remember. Go ahead. [00:43:37] Speaker B: Now again, Ron really isn't wrong in any of his assertions. [00:43:44] Speaker C: Yeah. He says, do you remember what you said to Hermione last time when you, you were here or we were here. You said she wasn't even a witch. Yeah. So it's like Ron is kind of reminding all of us how terrible Draco Kind of has been in this moment, but again, that juxtaposes how he's behaving now, which, I mean, is a little bit different. Ron storms off, and Harry follows. And then we've got a brief moment with just Draco and Hermione here. [00:44:14] Speaker B: And. And Draco thinks that she's gonna, like, pour salt in the wound, but she's like, you know, they need time or whatever, blah, blah, blah. [00:44:24] Speaker C: Yeah, he. Let's see. Yeah, she's asking him stuff like, you still have the mark. You could have brought, you know, who here. He might have even forgiven you if you gave him Harry, but you haven't. And, you know, I. I forget what Draco say. I mean. I mean, I know he's, like, looking up at time. The same guy wants to be alone, you know, or with his parents who would have known the answers to these questions? He asks her about her parents, interestingly. Yeah, she says she sent them away. And. And this astonishes him because she sent them away to be safe. Right? And this is kind of an important point. And he's like, what? You. You could have, like, left with them. You could have gone into hiding with them. You know, she. She's like, you know, she's like, what? Leave everyone else here to suffer with what's happening? She said, her voice rising. And like, he's just thinking, yes. Like, you pick what you care for and you care for it. Leave the rest. So, yeah, that's an interesting. You know, like, that's his. That's his ethics, you know, and that's [00:45:30] Speaker B: a lot of people's ethics. [00:45:32] Speaker C: Mm. Yeah. Which is interesting because I know people don't like to think this about themselves, but, you know, a lot of people who want to stay positive just in general, not focus on, like, the news and all the negative stuff that's happening, you know, I know it's difficult, especially with the world we live in, but, like, honestly, a lot of people are trying to make enough money so that the world's problems don't apply to them. You know, their own families surviving day to day. You know, we all do it a little bit. Like, people. People don't band together to solve problems that need to be solved by people banding together. You know, I mean, everyone's kind of dealing with their own. Their own little universe of their concerns, you know, I mean, we're not much different. [00:46:21] Speaker B: And I think that's an insidious motivation of capitalism and consumerism is like, you know, creating a system where people are so worn out and just need and preoccupy all their time with, you know, just surviving and making sure that their little bubble is safe and somewhat bearable to live and not, and therefore not and not having the mental energy to tackle all these systems and issues. [00:46:49] Speaker C: Yeah. I was reading something one time, you know, you see all these arguments sometimes that are like, why don't we like, have better work hours? Or why don't companies give better, like, benefits and flexibility and things just across the board, you know, like, wouldn't things, wouldn't it be more productive for capitalism if people weren't overworked? But like, the sad truth is the answer is like, no. Consumerism and all the profits that come from consumerism thrive better when people are overworked and tired. They buy things to be happy. They buy things for convenience. You know, they buy things because they don't have time to deal with anything. It's almost more profitable. It is more profitable for people to kind of be like tired and worn out like for the overall system to work kind of, which is terrible. [00:47:46] Speaker B: I remember one commentator I listened to who basically said that, you know, like the average working, you know, nine to five work schedule, it's basically daycare for adults so that adults don't have the mental headspace to think about the bigger issues, I guess. [00:48:05] Speaker C: I mean, you know, you can have a job that, you know, you're maybe actually accomplishing something, but like, so, yeah, I don't want to go off on capitalism. So much of the system relies on unpaid labor that's like holding the whole system up. [00:48:20] Speaker B: Yep. [00:48:21] Speaker C: You know, in terms of like child care and care for parents and, and like home care, house cleaning, like. [00:48:28] Speaker B: Yep. [00:48:29] Speaker C: If people were paid for all those tasks that they actually have to do in addition to their jobs, that's like a, a trillion dollar industry as well. That's unpaid, basically. [00:48:41] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:48:41] Speaker B: So anyway, so we end the chapter with Hermione just saying stay away from Ron for the time being. He takes a while to cool off and that is the end. [00:48:52] Speaker C: Yeah. So, and then we go to chapter eight and again, excuse me, Hermione's undoing the tent by herself before planning to make breakfast. And she was doing that before she was gonna go clean the bathroom. What the hell is everyone else doing? Excuse me, but yes, we talked about this already. [00:49:18] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:49:19] Speaker C: So Malfoy, when she asks him to do something or when he gets mistaken for like making breakfast or whatever, he gets real, he kind of gets roped into making breakfast. Like he comments like he's not their butler. I, I, I guess hermione's the butler. Like, yeah. Anyway, yeah. [00:49:40] Speaker B: So again, another thing. Again, this tent is fully stocked. They're enjoying a delicious, healthy breakfast of saus and eggs. [00:49:49] Speaker C: Yeah. Ron. Ron. Sleepyhead Ron. Not that Harry is any better. Right. Comes out like, oh, it smells amazing. Her mind. And then they, like, stop dead, realizing it's Draco. And he's just like, it's not poison. Yeah. [00:50:07] Speaker B: Yeah. So any ideas where to go next? [00:50:11] Speaker C: Harry has, like, a Scar moment. [00:50:14] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:50:14] Speaker C: During breakfast. And they all just kind of are like, okay. They all ignore it. [00:50:21] Speaker B: Yep. And do they have Polyjuice? No. Hermione's gonna start brewing it. So they decide the way they're gonna get into the Scavengers Guild is through transfiguration. [00:50:31] Speaker C: Yeah. I think they talk about a lot of things using Transfiguration to visit the Scavengers Guild and Diagon Alley. [00:50:39] Speaker B: They talk about where possibly Hufflepuff's cup could be. [00:50:42] Speaker C: Yeah. They talk again about where's the sword. What about the cup. They're kind of talking about all these things and obviously Draco is feeling. Feeling a bit of a way about being kind of an outsider. [00:50:57] Speaker B: And so he. So he stalks off and Hermione follows him. [00:51:01] Speaker C: And he's pretty butthurt. [00:51:04] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:51:05] Speaker B: And basically, you know, he's saying all things like, you know, again, I don't like being spoken about as if I'm not there or not. Not being included. No one asked for me. And it's like, did you have an idea? You have to. We don't defer to you. If you had an idea, you just say it. [00:51:19] Speaker C: Yeah. He's like, well, they didn't even thank me for breakfast. And he realizes how ridiculous it sounds like, as he's saying it, because, you know, what was Draco supposed to do about Potter's excruciating awkwardness? And Weasley's open to trust? Pretend they had no history together. Which is, you know, good point. It's a very awkward situation. [00:51:44] Speaker B: Yeah. So. But instead of taking the easy bait of, you know, mocking him first for his little petulant display Hermione takes the higher, higher moral ground. And she's just like, look, I know this is all hard, but, like, they are trying. I know you're trying. And, like, we appreciate what you have done this far. Blah, blah, blah. [00:52:03] Speaker C: Mm. Yeah. So that kind of catches him off guard. And. [00:52:11] Speaker B: And then they don't know it's this. But they have a little moment where Voldemort's name is uttered. [00:52:18] Speaker C: Yeah. Again, this is so frustrating to me because we kind of, I think we know kind of what's happening but you know, they're packing up. Draco's asking about the cloak actually he's like wondering how it could have been Harry's dad's but still functional now like it should be completely useless by now [00:52:38] Speaker B: And I like this because it makes sense again Draco has been handed everything and he's had access to a lot of artifacts that are top of the line. He remembers his father's invisibility cloak that was basically trash after 15 years so he knows this shouldn't look this good. [00:52:55] Speaker C: Yeah, he's definitely impressed and intrigued by it. But yeah, there's a loud crack, figures operating amongst the trees, you know there's some scramble, you know they're sending spells, they disapparate, they get out of there. Yeah, someone said, someone said Voldemort Harry. [00:53:17] Speaker B: Yeah and so they were able to escape because like Harry thrust the cloak onto Malfoy so Malfoy not being seen was able to you know, get the, get the better hand and basically get them out of there and he was, it was his first attempt at side along apparition. [00:53:34] Speaker C: Yeah, I did have one question though. So like I'm assuming it's the trace because it seems like like someone said Voldemort here then they got ambushed, it happened at the school. So they were talking about, you know, Voldemort got mentioned and then they realized, you know, Death Eaters were rushing towards the school. Right. They couldn't just appear there because of the school's protections. Right, but so that also happened but there was a moment in the previous chapter in the cave where so Harry had the dream about, you know, he's, he knows that Voldemort's looking for Gregorovich like the wand maker like Harry has that, that dream I guess, I guess Voldemort was not mentioned in that conversation. [00:54:20] Speaker B: No, because Ron, because Ron said shut up. Basically shut up. [00:54:25] Speaker C: Oh, Ron stops him. Okay, because I was just thinking like why didn't they get ambushed at the cave? But yeah, I guess it got stopped. Okay, so that's definitely what's happening. [00:54:36] Speaker B: Yeah, so yeah, so and so Draco takes them to a forest in Wiltshire that is only a few miles from his house. [00:54:46] Speaker C: Yeah, there's a moment here, Draco, like Harry's talking about my story Scar hurts, my scar hurts. Draco's like freaking out suddenly he's like what is wrong with your scare your scar dude? Like they explain there's a bit of A connection there. And he. And, like, they're wondering how the Death Eaters could have shown up so fast. And, you know, they're asking Draco, like, did you feel anything? Like, you know, because he has the mark. But he's like, no, it wasn't a summons. But they have. They have a little moment where they're talking about Occlumency. Yeah. [00:55:20] Speaker B: Yeah. Yes. [00:55:21] Speaker C: I guess that's after. That's after they settle, I guess. [00:55:24] Speaker B: Yeah. And Draco is also freaking out that this connection is so accessible to Voldemort that. That Voldemort can see Harry and therefore see that Draco is alive. [00:55:35] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. So Draco's definitely extremely unnerved. Unnerved by this information. He didn't know. I guess he didn't really know about this Scar connection that we all know about already. [00:55:47] Speaker B: Yeah. So basically the suggestion is Hermione's like, well, Draco knows, you know, occupancy, legitimacy. He can teach you. [00:55:57] Speaker C: Yeah, they're. They're talking like he's not there. And there's a brief moment here where, you know, Draco's very upset. Like, you could talk to me because I'm right here. And so Harry finally says, like, I don't want you in my head. Potter repeated. Or anybody. I don't like how it feels. But, yeah, you know, they discussed that it's probably a good idea that they do something. You know, Ron suggests Draco teach Hermione how to do it so that Hermione can perform it. Yeah. [00:56:31] Speaker B: Yeah. So, yeah. And then again, this is the point where they speak a little bit about the cloak and it's like, it's. You know, it. That's a really. And finally, Ron agrees. Like, yeah, it. It is not. Doesn't have frays or tears. Yours is just perfect. [00:56:48] Speaker C: Yeah. So there was a lot of, like. So far, there's been a lot of. I noted this here. There hasn't been many, like, narrative breaks. It's a lot of just scene by scene play of, like, conversations. Which is. Which is fine. It's just. It's starting. It started to feel a little bit like just a stream of them talking to each other. And then this is where you kind of. You kind of what? [00:57:14] Speaker B: Well, I actually kind of like these streams of scene by scene because I feel like it gives more detail and gives more substance to, like, the tent, the camping element, which sometimes I feel like there was a little bit too narrative in the canon books and not enough seat. Just pure scenes. [00:57:32] Speaker C: That's fair. But then this is the part where I was bummed by this a little bit. So they skipped over some interesting adventures. So they talk about, like, they continue camping. They looked for Horcruxes at the orphanage, at Helga Hufflepuff's old home. Like, there's just some description of things they've been doing because it switches to that. But it's like, oh, it would have been really cool not to have glossed over some of these things. Like, some of these dynamic stuff scenes could have maybe been incorporated into some of these explorations. Like, it didn't have to be one or the other. You know what I mean? [00:58:11] Speaker B: Yeah. So just. Yeah, again, just. Again, I don't disagree that. That those would have been interesting scenes to, like, have play out with those little adventures. But in the canon books, that is exactly how much detail is given when they try to go to, you know, the old. The old orphanage. Like, that is. It's literally one sentence. It doesn't exist anymore. It was buildings. There's no, like, scene of them, like, looking around or, like, anything like that. So specifically in relation to which, again, I always. [00:58:42] Speaker C: Oh, is that. Is that right? Oh, I actually don't remember that. Okay. [00:58:46] Speaker B: That's why I don't remember it. [00:58:47] Speaker C: It was so brief. [00:58:48] Speaker B: Yeah. So the author is following in this particular instance, the canon of glossing over that specific. And, you know, for whatever reason, made the choice that didn't want to add it. So it's not like. So it's not like she fit. She failed where the canon did it. Both the canon and this treat that the same and are very blase and pass over it. [00:59:09] Speaker C: Oh, okay. Well, that's why I don't remember it. I thought it was an invention of this author. [00:59:14] Speaker B: Yeah, no, I've read. I've read fan fictions that do do something when they do try to go to the orphanage, whether it still exists or not, and incorporate some, like, plot and scenes and stuff that I really always liked, you know? [00:59:26] Speaker C: Yeah, that's cool. [00:59:28] Speaker B: Yeah. But this. This is not one of those. [00:59:31] Speaker C: Yeah, that's fine. But, yeah, just. Just we're getting a lot of scenes with them. Just them kind of. But fair enough. It kind of happened in the story, too. Just camping. More camping. At least this one is probably a little more interesting. [00:59:50] Speaker B: Yep. So from visiting Helga Hufflepuff's play, you know, you know, Place Harry's, like, can we go to Gr Gradrick's Hollow, please? [01:00:02] Speaker C: They're all just like, why? Even though it's like, because we're exhausting our list of places to look for things like. That's why. I mean, I think. I don't know if it's here or later, but fair enough. Point. Like, it's possible it could be a dangerous place for them to show up at, but. [01:00:22] Speaker B: Yeah. And so we have a little Occlumency lesson where Hermione is penetrating Harry's mind [01:00:32] Speaker C: and Draco's remembering his own lessons with Auntie. Auntie Bellatrix, just briefly. [01:00:40] Speaker B: And Draco makes the thing like stop being embarrassed by them for a second for a start. Well, I'm not embarrassed about Ginny. You're embarrassed about Cho, though. Granger said Potter shot her a betrayed look. [01:00:53] Speaker C: Yeah. Like, it's weird. But I think Hermione says something like she didn't see Jenny or Cho. So it's a little unclear like what you see even if you're embarrassed about things like. I actually don't know if we've had a lot of description in the canon about exactly how this works like Legila Mancy and Aquamancy, but Draco says he's saying something about like these embarrassed thoughts can be like they're. He calls them fissure memories which are vulnerable points to let others get in. So that's kind of a new. A new thing. I guess it's a little more specific than what we got before. [01:01:39] Speaker B: Yeah. Because Harry with Snape never got beyond just like pure mind. Fuck. [01:01:48] Speaker C: Yeah. Snape wasn't very helpful. Draco at one point kind of prides himself like in that he at least got Potter to a better place than Snape did. [01:01:57] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:01:57] Speaker C: But yeah, he. To prove. To prove that you don't have to be embarrassed about Snow. Stuff like you wouldn't care if I la. If I laughed if you weren't self conscious about things like this. And Harry's like, well, what you're not embarrassed about Parkinson? So Draker's like, why should I be? You know, try it on me. And yeah, this description again is like not anything we've not like anything we've really seen before. I guess because we haven't seen. We haven't seen someone's perspective where they're doing the. The occlument of the. The legilimency. Right. [01:02:38] Speaker B: Yeah. Which is again, it's not as novel for me because there are a lot of Harry Potter fan fictions who do expand upon, usually create some sort of situation where Hermione is the one learning Occlumency, whether it's from Snape or someone else. But kind of, you know, those. Those Stories are more like, okay, Harry's clearly a lost girl. Cause he can't learn oculomacy. It's just not in his temperament. But Hermione can, and she can be helpful to Harry, so they teach her instead. So you get. So I've seen various people approach this differently, but yeah. [01:03:09] Speaker C: Oh, that's interesting because I kind of agree with a point Draco makes later, which is that Hermione is probably not well suited to this either because it's not well suited to people who care too much about things. Who care too much about things. But again, Hermione is very gifted, so I guess that's the other side of it. But yeah, yeah. Anyway, his mind was like a stone. This is Draco. His mind was like a stone with light glancing off of it. And you know, there's all this description of things and they're very impressed. Hermione wasn't able to see anything. Yeah. Occlumency gives everyone something to talk about, except Ron. So Ron's a little left out. But again, they all want Harry to like, be able to. To do this. So they're all, you know, working hard at it. [01:03:59] Speaker B: Yep. And then there's another. Another ambush. We don't directly see what happens because Draco notices it because he was doing something with Ron or Sputny by himself and Harry and Hermione were talking by. Amongst themselves and then. And we don't hear that exact conversation, but that's what triggers. And so they're able to escape thanks to Fred and George's like, Peruvian Darkness Powder. [01:04:25] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. They get away, you know, they discuss, like, what can they do? Why is this happening? Harry's scar wasn't hurting that much. Is it something else? What if they find the Horcruxes and then they get caught? You know, what if they show up during the night? Thanks, Potter. Drago said I've been sleeping too. Well, that ought to help. I like that part. [01:04:49] Speaker B: And then they're like, okay, why don't we set up our own headquarters and set up a Fidelius Charm? [01:04:55] Speaker C: Yeah, this was an interesting idea. I kind of liked this idea. You know, Hermione finds the spell in one of her books. They don't know anyone other than Dumbledore who's done it. [01:05:07] Speaker B: And yeah, so. And so Draco is just like, are we really gonna go through this false flattery of that Granger can't do it. [01:05:15] Speaker C: Yeah. It had to be false modesty, right? Surely after six straight years of immaculate test scores and incessant praise, Granger couldn't actually be insecure about her magical performance and they all jump in with giving her praise. So yeah, it's agreed upon that she's going to practice this Fidelius Charm. So they add it to the, they add it to the routine, added to the things. [01:05:39] Speaker B: And I think it's just interesting with Draco being so, again so out of touch with a non pure blood experience that he, because he's thinking like with all the external validation that Hermione gets because of her academics, like he can't possibly think that the prejudices of this world are so bad that it can have a psychological impact on someone like Hermione who's a Muggle born who doesn't feel like she belongs even though she is at the best. [01:06:08] Speaker C: Yeah. Again, since we get Hermione's pov, that is another aspect that would be interesting to see her reflect on, like how she gets anxious about things. I'm not sure how much we get. We, we maybe get a little bit of it when we're in her POV and she's practicing the Fidelius Charm. I think we actually, yeah, we do get a little bit where she's like a little bit frustrated with herself because it has to be perfect. Right. So yeah, getting that aspect of her is interesting to see. But anyway, there's a part here. So yeah, again this is kind of just. They're practicing Aquamans and then they come [01:06:50] Speaker B: to the point of who should be the Secret Keeper. [01:06:53] Speaker C: Yeah, they. It's stupid for it to be Potter. Draco said the Death Eaters will, will expect that. [01:07:01] Speaker B: Yeah. And they, and they go, they go into this funny thing of like it didn't matter that Dumbledore was the Secret Keeper because he could like take out a dozen Death Eaters at once. Potter, you don't have that advantage. [01:07:15] Speaker C: And Harry's like, well, eight on a good day. [01:07:20] Speaker B: Yes. [01:07:22] Speaker C: That gets a laugh from everyone. [01:07:25] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:07:25] Speaker C: And the camaraderie, the camaraderie is growing through, through connection and humor. How lovely. [01:07:34] Speaker B: And Draco makes the comment of, you know, it's decided that Ron should be the Secret Keeper because again, he has the most connections, you know, familial connections and other connections with everyone in terms of like recruitment and knowing more about the wizarding world than like Harriet and Harry and Hermione and so Rock. [01:07:54] Speaker C: Half his family's in the order already. [01:07:57] Speaker B: Yeah. So Draco is clocking that. You know, Ron feels like really moved and happy and like, feels like he's got a purpose. [01:08:07] Speaker C: You know, as usual, poor Ron always Looking for a purpose. [01:08:13] Speaker B: Yep. And. And Draco is clocking this and he's coming at it from a. More like, oh, oh, my sweet summer child. [01:08:20] Speaker C: Like, summer child. Oh, boy. [01:08:25] Speaker B: Yeah. About like this means, like, you know, torture. [01:08:32] Speaker C: You're a valuable prisoner or an object of torture potentially. But, you know, he doesn't say. He doesn't say anything of that, which is actually very nice of him. [01:08:43] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:08:44] Speaker C: So. And then there's a moment here where, you know, they're talking about this. Draco glanced around them, the trio he hated so enthusiastically for so long and thought about the ways they hurt and everything they were risking. Foolishly, maybe, but not without reason. He found he couldn't look at them for very long. Is that empathy? Or at least sympathy? Yep. [01:09:08] Speaker B: Well, I think it's. I think it's. That's. Yeah, it's just the idea. I like the phrase foolishly, but not without reason. You know, first time, first time that them not engaging in purely, like, self preservation, that the reason they're not purely engaging in that has merit. [01:09:27] Speaker C: Mm. Yeah. What a. What a concept. [01:09:32] Speaker B: Yes, indeed. [01:09:33] Speaker C: So we do have a bit of a Hermione Draco moment here after dinner. You know, she's like, you're really helping Harry. You know, Snake made him miserable with occupancy. And Drago's like, yeah, well, hopefully it'll keep us from getting murdered in our beds. And this is. This is where Hermione's like, maybe I'd be good at it. And he says, no offense, Granger, but people who are chronic, people who chronically care too much about everything, aren't exactly predisposed to it. And she's asking him about, you know, did Bellatrix teach you? You know, and he's thinking about, like, he got his assignment to kill Dumbledore and how the Death Eaters thought it was kind of funny because it was actually like, kind of bringing the Malfoys down a notch. You know, they all resented us for one reason or another. Yeah. And this is where he again, has this sort of thinking about looking out for yourself. And he's like, everything's funny when it's not happening to you. And he kind of rambles on like a headache started to pulse deep in his skull. All year he muttered, I was just waiting to get back on that side of it where I was the one watching. And, yeah, laughing. I mean, it was like, I loved it so much, watching things happen to other people because if you're watching, it's not you. Which is. Yeah, there's a pithy thought for you? If you're watching, it's not you that it's happening. [01:10:58] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. That made me think about, you know, just all the times, you know, in society when there were public executions and we all think with horror of, like, how did people find that entertaining? But if it's not you. [01:11:10] Speaker C: Yeah, that's pretty, pretty twisted. But, you know. Yeah, she, she asks him, like, you flinch sometimes, she said, when people go for their wands. Is that because. And he says, only twice. And then he stood and went to bed, I assume. I was actually a little unclear, but I assume she's asking or about to ask, like, were you tortured? [01:11:37] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:11:37] Speaker C: And he's saying, he's saying like, oh, only twice, you know. Yeah. So, yeah, I mean, it's becoming clear that he was tortured pretty bad at one point or I guess at two points. [01:11:51] Speaker B: Yeah. So the next scene cuts to trying the Fidelius charm for the first time. And you know, Hermione goes at it for three hours, but it doesn't work and she's getting frustrated with herself. [01:12:05] Speaker C: Yeah. This is actually interesting how it's described. Like, we finally get a glimpse of her anxiety, you know, waking up from nightmares, you know, all of her supposed potential, her supposed great ability would fall by the wayside or go unnoticed and she wouldn't be able to sign up for newts or have any proper job prospects. And her parents disappointment would be coupled with her friend's surprise and her enemy's vindictive satisfaction. And the rest of her life would be filled with regret. Like, oh, my goodness, it just goes on and on and on, like spiraling. [01:12:38] Speaker B: You said that. You said that out. And I just think of anxiety from inside out too. [01:12:43] Speaker C: Yeah. Like, again, it'd be interesting to learn kind of more like put the pieces together of why she is quite so anxious and has to be a perfectionist. And strangely, I was thinking about like her parents and how they're dentists and it's like maybe they're obsessed with perfection. Like, perfect teeth, perfect home. She has perfectionist dentist parents who've now transferred all this anxiety onto her. [01:13:15] Speaker B: Again, different authors and different novels have explored that and I have read those. I have read those perfectionist parent fan fictions. [01:13:23] Speaker C: Yeah. But it's becoming clear that, you know, she will often feel like she's not good enough and, you know, people are trying to reassure her and, you know, she's saying she kind of lists off the failures, like exactly what happened each time, which again is like a very detail oriented but almost like, again, OCD. Like, fixating thing. [01:13:47] Speaker B: Fixating, ruminating. [01:13:49] Speaker C: The second time I messed up here. The third time I messed up here. The fourth time I messed up here. The 12th time I messed up here. You know, it's very, like. It's very, like, analytical. Like overly analytical. You know what I mean? Yeah. And then. And then she's like, you know what? I could use that diadem. The diadem. [01:14:15] Speaker B: Yeah. So, you know, and then, you know, there's a voice. How stupid not to think of the diadem before. [01:14:23] Speaker C: Without. [01:14:24] Speaker B: Without it, she did foolish, forgetful things. Without the diadem, she was fallible and unexceptional. Only human with it. She was so much more. [01:14:31] Speaker C: Yeah. It. She puts it on. It gives her hyper focus clarity on everything she needs to work on. Precisely. So much so that she's like, I need to try another day. I have to practice other things first before I can even do these things. So we get these thoughts. Yeah. Slipping in about her casting off her dull, barbaric Muggle life, which, you know, which is obviously the influence of the Horcrux taking. Taking over. But what I also found more like, just as concerning is when she takes it off. Like she is practicing all these other spells that are supposed to help. Right. When she takes it off, her mind is affected. When she takes it off. The past two hours almost blurred. She couldn't remember exactly which spell she'd done or what she'd been thinking, really. But she had the feeling of intense productivity, you know, as if she just finished 4.4ft of parchment for Professor Flitwick. So. So, And. And she's like. And the diadem seems lonely. So. So she's personifying the diadem. And it's not just that she's smart when she has it on, it seems like there's now this change when she doesn't have it on, it's like messing up her memory when she doesn't have it on. So that's pretty serious. [01:15:55] Speaker B: Does it remind us of anything from book two? [01:15:59] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. Something that, you know, as you're being possessed, like, makes you block out your memories. Yeah. A certain diary. Yep. Yeah. So she suggests they use it more. She assure, you know, because they talk about, like, all of them using it maybe to, like, figure some things out. And she's assuring them she's not relying on it. Malfoy's super skeptical about it. Yeah. So what's weird is, so they all try it, but I guess it all impacts them differently, right? [01:16:32] Speaker B: Yes. So. Yeah. So for Hermione, it makes her like, again, recall all the information that she's gathered. Like, and it's very memory based for [01:16:41] Speaker C: Rob, it's like, it's like she's taken Adderall, you know, basically a study drug. Right. It's like she's taken the drug for ADD or adhd. When you don't have that, you know, condition and puts you into like hyper focus. Hyper focus mode. Right. [01:17:01] Speaker B: For, for Ron, on the other hand, it places him in a position of like seeing all the pieces on the chessboard. [01:17:11] Speaker C: Yeah, I thought that was interesting. So he can see kind of like societally how it all kind of plays out and fits together. Together, yes. But it doesn't help him remember anything specific. [01:17:26] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. Thinking societally and then using you as a scapegoat, Harry, it's like, what is our move? And he's like, we're doing all that we can. [01:17:37] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:17:38] Speaker B: And then Harry puts it on his. And we don't get as much of a description of what's going on in Harry's mind. [01:17:45] Speaker C: He takes it off and he's like, Godric's Hollow. Yeah, like, yeah, like Rod was a [01:17:52] Speaker B: lot more eloquent in describing his, you know, you know, his thought process, but Harry's just like, godric's Hollow. [01:18:01] Speaker C: I'm trying to remember if Harry maybe is a bit resistant to Horcruxes, since he kind of is one sort of already. But that's not correct. Right. I remember the locket was impacting him quite a bit in book seven. [01:18:19] Speaker B: I feel like it was impacting mood. It was impacting like, you know, in fatigue. Like, I think, I think it generally made him feel bad and like he couldn't cast a patronus when he had it on. So, like, it affected him in certain ways and, like, didn't make him at his. He wasn't in an optimal state. But psychologically, yeah, it did not affect him in the same manner that in canon that Ron was affected. And now that we're seeing Hermione with [01:18:47] Speaker C: the diadem, you know, maybe even though these are all pieces of Voldemort's soul, maybe by virtue of being different items, they all kind of have certain influences over different types of people. So for example, the locket maybe does certain things to a certain type of person. The diary maybe makes people who feel lonely, like targets is good at targeting people feel lonely. Right. The diadem maybe targets people who do strive for, like, perfection. [01:19:24] Speaker B: And you know, that's Ravenclaw's wisdom crown. [01:19:28] Speaker C: Right. It like maybe capitalizes upon the flaws that different people have. So maybe not the items don't affect everyone the same way. So for Hermione, this is, like, the worst possible one? [01:19:45] Speaker B: Yeah, I think so. And then there's also been theories discussing, like, again with Voldemort splitting his soul, like, in half and half and half. So it's not, like, equal seventh. It's like, you know, that's half his soul, a quarter of his soul, blah, blah, blah. So there's some theories going on that maybe certain. The potency of certain Horcruxes is different depending on the order in which he put his soul piece in there. [01:20:10] Speaker C: Oh, okay. Yeah. [01:20:12] Speaker B: But, yeah, but I. But, yeah, definitely go. I like your theory. And, yeah, in that line of logic, the Diadem is the absolute most dangerous of all the Horcruxes to Hermione specifically. And just in general, I like the addition of Hermione having to struggle with a Horcrux in the. In this way. In this. In a way that Ron had to. [01:20:40] Speaker C: Mm. Yeah. I mean, I think it's definitely helping maybe say something about her. Again, she's a POV character, so it's kind of helping bring out things that maybe we should be concerned about, you know, that she needs to work on, like her strive for perfectionism, you know, and why this is such a attractive tool to her. Yeah, it's all. It's that all of that is a very interesting, like, arc. Right. Because if anything, Draco obviously has a redemption arc. But Hermione, again, this is what I was worried about earlier. Like, if she's, again, also a character, then she has to have some kind of character arc. You know what I mean? Like, she has to grow. Grow in some way. So this kind of introduces some conflict that maybe she has to work through because it's deeper than. Obviously, there's the diadem. It's. The diadem itself is a problem, but she's got this other. It's because of these aspects of herself. Right. That she needs to work on. Yeah. So. But, yeah, so Harry's like, I don't know. My instincts are telling me Godric's hollow. [01:21:46] Speaker B: And they. And they vote. And so Ron is like, okay. And she. Her eyes like, no. And Malfoy's like, I abstain from the vote. You can't abstain. Hermione said, yes, he can. Said Harry triumphantly. [01:21:58] Speaker C: Yes, he can. Malfoy tries it too. He. I liked this. Again, too bad we aren't in his point of view at this moment. But he kind of looks over all of them, like, very slowly. And then he just takes it off and he's like, nothing useful. And that's it. That's all we get from him. [01:22:22] Speaker B: And he's like, I'm going to bed. [01:22:23] Speaker C: Godric Hollow, as Harry would say. Godric's Hollow. Godric's Hollow. [01:22:28] Speaker B: Godric Hollow. And some banter about how they'll transfigure themselves. Like, should they be a family? Should they be two fathers? Adopted so they don't have to look alike. All sorts of things. And so, you know, they finally settle for a bunch of friends. [01:22:44] Speaker C: Yeah, I thought that was kind of cute. [01:22:46] Speaker B: Little. [01:22:47] Speaker C: Little discussion here. Yeah. So it's not Christmas time. It's August. So it's much earlier than the original canon. [01:22:57] Speaker B: Yep. And filled with families, many of whom are strolling through the picturesque little square in the heart of the village. Unattended groups of children were laughing and chasing each other down the narrow, winding streets. It was a beautiful place. And Hermione tried not to watch Harry too closely. His eyes kept straying wistfully to the children. She knew he was thinking about the childhood he's lost here. The life he might have had if not for Voldemort. [01:23:19] Speaker C: Mm. Yeah, very sad. [01:23:22] Speaker B: But they ultimately come up to the ruined cottage. [01:23:29] Speaker C: Yeah. Harry's, like, drawn to it. They all follow him. [01:23:33] Speaker B: And we've got the same sign. [01:23:35] Speaker C: Yes, the same sign, but something new here, which I thought was really cool. Hermione doesn't do this in the canon, but she taps it, you know, with the revealing spell and a note appears. [01:23:52] Speaker B: Yes. Return to the site of survival. [01:23:55] Speaker C: Yeah. And they're like, you know, what does that mean? And they're like, it must mean to go there, you know, and it's basically up to his nursery. Yeah, his room where he was almost killed. So that's where it ends. And I was like, oh. Like, I got chills, like. Because I wondered about that. Like, we got the wrecked house, but we didn't actually go into the house. I mean, I guess it's. [01:24:23] Speaker B: No, we didn't. But, yeah, we didn't go into the house. I thought the chapter ended. I forgot that it ended in a cliffhanger like this because obviously I know it's there, but. [01:24:34] Speaker C: Oh, you do? Well, I'm excited to read the next chapters. So. Yeah, I loved these two chapters, as I said. [01:24:42] Speaker B: Alrighty, then. So let's move on to our little exercises, which are our Draco Redemption ranking. So, what, from 1 to 10, what'd you give him? [01:24:56] Speaker C: I was having Trouble thinking about this, because I feel like I was rating him 6 before, and I feel like he's done. There's been way more progress here. I mean, it's incremental, but there's been way more progress. Yeah, he's, like, interacting with them. He didn't say Mud blood. You know, he. But seven also feels, like, kind of strong. I don't. Six and a half. Okay. Yeah. [01:25:25] Speaker B: I guess I'm approaching this, again, more incrementally, like, within the specific chapters of how much. How much progress versus, like, you know, more holistically, because. Yeah, because I'm thinking eight, because, again. So. Yeah, so I was thinking, like, eight, because, again. And it's so sad that the bar is in hell. [01:25:48] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, I see. We're saying, like, within these two chapters, he went from, like, lower to much higher. I agree with that. Yeah. I'm thinking more holistically, like, to where a 10 would be just where he is now. [01:26:03] Speaker B: Yeah. Again, it's really. I think. I think it's the fact that there were so many instances of. Again, refraining. You know, refraining from calling Mud blood. Again, getting along a little better with them purposely, like, picking his battles, if you will. Like, having a thought process of. He could say something really snarky and. And unhelpful, but he doesn't do it. [01:26:25] Speaker C: Yeah. And again, at one point, even saying he was thinking about how they had all hurt and what they were fighting for, you know, that's a big. That's a big leap forward. So. [01:26:36] Speaker A: Yep. [01:26:37] Speaker B: And. Okay, so, yeah, so mine was eight, and yours was six and a half. [01:26:41] Speaker C: Yes. Okay. [01:26:43] Speaker B: All righty, then. So I'm gonna shuffle for Tarot of the day. We'll see. Hopefully we'll get one that somewhat, you know. Well, the last one was pretty good. It was the first. It was the first card we pulled, like, first episode that, like, really sucked. [01:26:56] Speaker C: Mm. [01:26:58] Speaker A: Okay, I'm shuffling. I'm shuffling. [01:27:02] Speaker B: Okay, so we have. And I have the deck that you got me. We have the ace of wands. [01:27:09] Speaker C: Ace of wands. Cool. [01:27:11] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, just a wands. A wands suit. The wand suit very pertinent to the Harry Potter. [01:27:17] Speaker C: Well, anything of wands is like. Oh, yeah, that makes sense. Sure. Yeah. [01:27:24] Speaker B: But. But even just. But there was, you know, just the general concept of wands. You know, there was that particular moment of, you know, Harry's thinking more about Gregorovich, but also specifically in Draco's, like, trauma responses where he, like, flinches when someone goes for their wands because he. He views Wands more as weapons rather than, you know, tools. Because. Yeah, because the crowd he's been around, so. But yeah, let me see. [01:27:52] Speaker C: Wands, Pentacles. [01:27:54] Speaker B: No, we don't want pentacles. We don't want cups. We want wands. [01:28:00] Speaker C: Ace, Ace, ace. [01:28:03] Speaker B: Okay. The ace of wands. The eight. This ace symbolizes a new beginning, one full of passion and rich with promise. You're ready to express yourself in a new dynamic way. You want to be seen in a new light. You're bringing your creativity to bear in an exciting endeavor and you're psyched about the possibilities opening up before you. Think of this as the go for it card. [01:28:24] Speaker C: Wow, that works for both Draco and Hermione, I think. [01:28:28] Speaker B: Yes. Because yeah, you want to be seen in a new light. Which again, I think that's very much. Even if he doesn't recognize it himself, Draco is acting and again resisting certain snarky urges or at least the really, really mean ones, you know, to. [01:28:47] Speaker C: Yeah, well, I mean it started with just wanting to be seen, right. Because they would talk about him and not really include him in the conversation. I mean again, I know he has to pipe up for himself, but you know, and they're very close knit but like just like, hey, I'm right here. Like I want to be seen. Like I can actually like respond to questions if you ask them to me directly, you know, like wanting to be part of the group and then of course like the turning the new leaf part. Part of it, you know, like becoming a slightly different person, you know, than he has been in the past. And then for Hermione, I mean we, you know, she has all this anxiety about like her, her skills and stuff but you know, now she's doing something much more difficult. And so, you know, issues with the diadem aside, I guess, you know, she's kind of getting all this praise and she's like, okay, like this is maybe the hardest thing I've ever tried potentially, but let's do it. I'll try it. Like she's moving on to the next. It's like the next level up for her. Yeah. At least skill wise. I guess so. [01:29:59] Speaker B: Yeah. And for Draco, like your, the idea you're ready to express yourself in a new dynamic way. Like I think of that in terms of again being in a sort of like mentor, tutor, teacher position via the occlumency lessons that he's kind of reminds me of like Zuko being put. Finally put in the position to train Aang. [01:30:19] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. Even I'm Trying to think of the other characters too. Like even Ron, you know, we went from the beginning, in the beginning of the chapter, he was like, draco doesn't care about anything. Like he's a jerk. Like all that stuff. And now they're like, you know, pretty civil talking together. You know, there's progress there as well. Yeah. [01:30:44] Speaker B: And again for Ron, it's exciting. He, he gets to be the Secret Keeper. He gets to be, you know, at the, at the center of this new endeavor of the Fidelius charm that they're doing. [01:30:56] Speaker C: Mm mm. Yeah, we don't get really a lot in terms of Harry's growth. It's just him like trying to figure out what to do next with the rest of them. Having some issues with like the dreams. And then he's doing some occupancy training. But you know, I mean, maybe there's some progress there, but I feel like it was very, very minor progress. So I feel like Harry didn't make as much progress in these chapters. [01:31:22] Speaker B: Yeah. And I'll just say this as a comment has nothing to do with the Terror, the Tarot stuff. But you know, one thing I really dislike, dislike about book 7 canon is I don't like how much Hermione bitches to Harry about, you know, trying to close off the connection. And like she's just not productive. Even if she has good reason, she's just not productive in getting Harry to a point of where he could even begin to like start to, to try Aquamancy again. And she's just really like not helpful about it. So I, you know, so. [01:31:57] Speaker C: And one way I remember that. Yeah, yeah. [01:32:01] Speaker B: You know, in some ways I'm glad, I'm glad in this one that that's not as much of an issue. But I would have been interesting to hear like her thought process because usually she's emotionally intelligent enough to realize that harping on someone like that is not going to get them to do what you want. But. [01:32:15] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, exactly. Like sometimes she's a little blind to her own. Oh, I don't want to say bossiness, but you know, sometimes she is a little self righteous. Self righteous. Insensitive. Yeah. I don't know what the right word is. She thinks it's almost like I don't want to got toxic positivity. But you know, sometimes it's like, yeah, you can do it. Like just keep at it. Like, I'm sure it'll be fine. It, it is a little insensitive, you know, because she's not seeing maybe the deeper struggle that they're having. Because she assumes she knows everything she needs to know. Yeah, I don't know. [01:32:55] Speaker B: All right. [01:32:56] Speaker C: Yeah, good point. [01:32:57] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:32:58] Speaker B: So. And then finally, our last exercise is our, you know, favorite fanfiction additions. Again, the idea of what did we like in the. Within the chapters. Not so much that that's a plot thing, but rather a physical or tangible thing that's new that expands upon the worst. Like, again, the Scavenger Guild or whatever. For me, I really like all the added detail of, you know, the stuff Fred and George, you know, bring and bring and have added. And specifically, I just honed in on the tent that Fred and George gives them because it, like, totally. It seems to totally change the va. The vibe and how they approach, you know, this whole quest they're doing because they are in better living conditions. They have food where they can, you know, have a decent meal and think and talk about things without being at each other's throats. [01:33:53] Speaker C: Without being hangry. [01:33:55] Speaker B: Without being hangry, basically. [01:33:58] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:33:59] Speaker B: Because Ron. Ron Hangry is insufferable. [01:34:02] Speaker C: Yeah. They're glamping this time. [01:34:04] Speaker B: Glamping, exactly. So, yeah, my favorite fan fiction edition is the luxurious tent for glamping. [01:34:14] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:34:16] Speaker B: What was yours? [01:34:18] Speaker C: I actually wrote down several notes here just because every time, like, something new appears, I'm just making a note of it in general. But if I had to pick one, I'd say the. The revealed writing on the sign at the Godric's Hollow at the Potter House Memorial. That, like, the way the chapter ended and with that and that, like, being a new thing because we've already been here before. What could possibly be new and different about this place? And. And yet something came up that was, like, kind of exciting. That might have even been a clue that was, you know, there in the other, you know, the other parallel universe or whatever that we didn't see. So it's like, oh, something that maybe Dumbledore left that they missed. You know, like, anyway, a side quest [01:35:07] Speaker B: they did not pursue. [01:35:09] Speaker C: A side quest they didn't. They didn't get. Yeah. So I really. I really liked that. [01:35:15] Speaker B: Alrighty, so that covers it for tonight. And then next, the next next chapters shall be. We'll go over 9 and 10. The Queen of the Night and the Scavengers Guild. [01:35:32] Speaker C: Oh, the Queen of the Night. What could that possibly be about? [01:35:37] Speaker B: Honestly, I forgot. I don't remember. I don't remember what that means. [01:35:42] Speaker C: Now I'm thinking of. Isn't that, like, from the Magic Flute? Like, you know, that's that Lady Is that the Queen of the Night? [01:35:54] Speaker B: I don't remember. I don't remember. [01:35:56] Speaker C: I think she's the Queen of the Night. [01:35:59] Speaker B: Yep. [01:36:00] Speaker C: All right. I'm very curious. I mean, I can probably guess what the Scavenger Guild's about. Yeah. Yeah. [01:36:08] Speaker B: Alrighty, then. Catch you guys later. Bye. [01:36:11] Speaker C: Bye, [01:37:35] Speaker A: Sa.
